Enola

Enola is located along the Susquehanna River in East Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, PA.  Norfolk Southern operates Enola Yard, a large rail yard and locomotive shop in Enola. It is a suburb of Harrisburg being only minutes from the state capital building.

The town came into existence due to the building of rail lines through the area. Local farmer Wesley Miller sold land to the Pennsylvania Railroad and was given the honor of naming the train station. He named the station “Enola,” in honor of his four-year-old daughter. Eventually, the local post office and surrounding town adopted the name as well

Enola is served by a single high school, East Pennsboro High School. Originally named Enola High School, it was built on farmland which had been owned by the Gutshall family from the late 1800s – 1940s. It is located on Shady Lane, parallel to Gutshall Road. The original one room school house is located on Wertzville Road. East Pennsboro is the second largest township in Cumberland County with approximately 20,000 residents and 12,000 more people who commute to the Township every day to work.

Enola hosts town and rural settings and has parks, churches and is minutes to Holy Spirit Hospital.  The Township has 145 acres of park land designed to give residents of all ages the ability to walk trails, play sports, picnic or just enjoy the outdoors.  They have a professional Parks staff that maintains the parks on a daily basis, as well as during the many hosted events every year.
